The Inspired Money Podcast is Juuuuuuust Short of Inspired
A Review of the Inspired Money Podcast for Great Pods!
Let me say this right off the bat; I really don’t like money podcasts. Like, REALLY don’t like money podcasts. I can’t express this enough. I rank them just better than Weight Loss podcasts and those True Crime shows that make apologies every episode how ‘cops have tough jobs so it’s ok they overlooked all these clues and bungled the investigation and ignored the obvious target and accidentally shot the victim and yadda yadda yadda.’ So that’s the lens you have to read this through.
The reason I don’t like Money podcasts is they too often tend to victim blame. It’s all about “mindset” and “motivation” as if those who don’t have means are just silly little boys and girls who don’t know how to WANT money. It’s gross. GROSS. And I hate it.
And the first episode I chose of this show was so guilty of that I had to turn it off. It was the episode titled Fighting For Financial Freedom with Paul Halme. And within the first three minutes he’d said “Mindset” so often that if I was doing a drinking game I’d be wasted and in need of a new kidney. I almost threw up anyways. It was so bad.
But here’s the thing. I’ve seen the host Andy Wang speak before. And afterwards we chatted for a bit and he’s a nice guy. And a really SMART guy; the type of guy who I would WANT to take financial advice from. So I gave the show another shot. And it got better. I sampled a few other episodes and didn’t lose my breakfast. And as a host myself I can say that if you expect to love every episode of a show, that’s on you. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and I LIKE every Star Wars creation but I didn’t love Boba Fett. In fact, I barely liked it. To be honest, I don’t LOVE every episode of my own show. Some of stinkers. It just happens. So I had to take a deep breath and give Andy the benefit of the doubt on the Paul Halme episode.
Look, I’m not going to continue listening to this show. My hatred of money shows remains. That being said, if you are a person who enjoys shows on finance and finical topics, this one is, without a doubt, the one for you. Besides being a smart guy, Andy is a great host and knows how to lead his guests. And he knows how to make finance interesting. Which, again given my feelings on this, is saying something!
And I will say, there’s a reason this show has hundreds of thousands of fans. People do like money shows. And people clearly love this one. Which makes sense. You’re going to learn something, you’re going to rethink some things, and you’ll come out smarter.
Overall, even with my hatred of money shows, I give this one an 8/10, because I think for people who enjoy financial shows, this one is as good as it gets.
